Hoyer Visits Prince George's County Family Justice Center

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) joined Judge Sheila Tillerson Adams and Executive Director Denise McCann for a tour of and briefing on the Prince George’s County Family Justice Center. The Center, which opened in June 2016, provides support services to survivors of domestic violence, child abuse, human trafficking, elder abuse, and sexual assault.

“As a cosponsor of the original Violence Against Women Act in 1994 and the reauthorization in 2013, I am committed to ending the scourge of domestic violence in our community,” said Congressman Hoyer. “In addition to making sure that federal, state, and local officials have all the tools they need to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators of domestic violence, we must also ensure that victims of abuse and their families have the resources and support they need to heal and seek justice. I thank Judge Sheila Tillerson Adams and Executive Director Denise McCann for their leadership in creating this center to provide those services here in one setting near the Court House. I will continue to work with officials and advocates to ensure it can continue to provide support to those in need and serve as a haven for families across the County.”

The Family Justice Center provides a “one-stop” setting for services from 19 providers to help abuse victims and their children, which include safety planning, counseling, legal assistance, and social services.
