Jobs/Economy/Small Business

These are hard times for our economy, and Congressman Steny Hoyer understands that to rebuild, we have to invest in the future, support our small businesses, and work aggressively to create jobs. That's why he's taking the lead on the Make It In America agenda, a plan to create jobs by reinvigorating American manufacturing and fighting for a fair playing field for American companies that compete globally. When more products are made in America, more families will be able to Make It In America.

Congressman Hoyer is also fighting to invest in growth and job creation throughout Maryland. Those investments are creating jobs and building a foundation for the future: Congressman Hoyer led passage of legislation to invest in 185 transportation projects, improve more than 150 miles of highway, support 59 clean energy projects, and bring broadband Internet to almost 5 million people in our state. And he successfully fought to keep thousands of cops, firefighters, and teachers on the job and serving our communities in Maryland.

Congressman Hoyer understands that small businesses are the job-creating engine of our economy. He worked to secure billions of dollars in tax cuts for small businesses, including those businesses that hire unemployed workers. And when Maryland business owners told him that they were struggling to get access to credit, Congressman Hoyer fought to create a small business lending fund, so businesses in Maryland, and across our country, can get the loans they need to innovate, grow, and hire. As we work to strengthen Maryland's economy, Congressman Hoyer hopes to hear from local businesses about what other steps Congress can take to help them grow and create jobs.
