Hoyer Attends Maryland Democratic Party Annual Gala

GREENBELT, MD – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) tonight attended the Maryland Democratic Party Annual Gala and delivered the closing remarks. The keynote speaker at the event was Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia. Other federal, state and local Democratic elected officials were in attendance.

“Over the next several months, our party will be choosing its nominees for the Senate and for contested House races,” said Congressman Steny Hoyer. “We’re going to pick the best nominees who can win next November, and hold our Democratic seats, and we’re going to be united and energized behind our candidates. We will be working all across the state to elect Democrats who are going to fight for a higher minimum wage, defend health care reform, work to create more jobs here at home, and stand up for equal justice for every single individual.”

“It’s going to take hard work and it’s going to take time and money and commitment,” continued Congressman Hoyer. “And everyone in attendance tonight is going to have to step up and play a leading role, which is exactly why I’m confident that we’re going to do extraordinarily well."

The Maryland Democratic Party presented several awards including the Lifetime Democratic Service Award, which was presented to former Chairwoman Yvette Lewis. Other awards were presented to Maryland State Education Association President Betty Weller; Democratic Leadership Award and Frederick County Democratic Central Committee; Democratic Achievement Award.
