Federal Employees Endorse Hoyer’s Reelection to Congress

BOWIE, MD – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer has been endorsed for his reelection to Congress in the Fifth Congressional District by organizations representing federal employees, including the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the National Association of Government Employees (NAGE), and the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU).

“I am proud to represent 62,000 federal employees in the Fifth Congressional District,” said Congressman Hoyer. “These hardworking men and women support the defense and well-being of our nation, which is why I have consistently opposed efforts to reduce their wages, benefits, and hours. If we are to recruit and retain the best civil service in the world, we must ensure they have fair pay and benefits. I thank AFGE, AFSCME, NAGE, and NTEU for their support, and I will continue to partner with them to advocate for our federal workforce.”

“Congressman Hoyer has been an unwavering advocate for federal government employees since he was first elected to Congress in 1981,” said AFGE National President J. David Cox, Sr. “Rep. Hoyer has fought to ensure the federal government has the resources it needs to recruit the best and brightest workers and that our public sector workers are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. We are proud to call Congressman Hoyer our friend and ally, and we look forward to continuing to work closely together in the years ahead on behalf of federal workers and the American people we serve.”

“AFSCME is proud to endorse and stand with such a steadfast leader as Rep. Steny Hoyer,” said Lee Saunders, President of AFSCME. “Rep. Hoyer has demonstrated a commitment to the members of AFSCME over the course of his political career. Time and again he stands with us on the issues that matter most to the AFSCME members and working families. As an important and effective leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, he has helped lead the fight for health care for all, in opposition to harmful and draconian budget cuts, and against attacks on American workers and their families.”

“As a Member of Congress, you have been a true leader for the working families of Maryland and the United States,” wrote David J. Holway, National President of NAGE. “At a time when our nation seems to be tearing itself apart, your leadership has been steady and driven by the core values of justice that drive our great nation… We are at a crossroads in the United States, and your continued presence and leadership in Congress is more vital than over.”

“The National Treasury Employees Union, representing over 150,000 federal employees at 31 agencies, is proud to wholeheartedly endorse you for reelection to the United States House of Representatives,” wrote Anthony M. Reardon, National President of NTEU.“From pay, to healthcare affordability and retirement protection, you have led the fight for fair treatment of federal employees, retirees, and their families. You have used your role as Minority Whip to advocate on behalf of federal workers and the critical functions they perform every day for our nation. Federal employees have no better advocate on Capitol Hill than you.”
