Hoyer Hosts Town Hall Meeting with Fifth District Constituents

GLENN DALE, MD – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) hosted a town hall meeting tonight with approximately 150 Fifth District constituents at Reid Temple AME Church in Glenn Dale, Maryland. Following Rep. Hoyer’s opening remarks, constituents were invited to ask questions, which spanned a number of topics ranging from the budget and health care to the environment and national security. Jennifer Jones, Chair of the Prince George’s County Women’s Commission, served as the moderator.

“We are approaching the first 100 days of an unprecedented Administration, and I know that many people in our community are concerned about the future,” said Congressman Hoyer. “That’s why I felt it was important to host a conversation on a wide range of issues with constituents in the Fifth District to discuss how I am pushing back on the dangerous Trump agenda as well as to hear from constituents about their concerns and ideas.”

“I am strongly opposed to Republicans' efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, President Trump’s severe budget cuts, attacks on federal employees, efforts to roll back clean air and clean water protections, and policies that make America less safe,” said Congressman Hoyer. “I’m pleased I had the opportunity to discuss these issues and how we can all work together to keep our community and our country safe and secure. I thank everyone who joined me at tonight’s town hall, including Jennifer Jones, who took time to facilitate tonight’s discussion and who is an outstanding leader of the Prince George’s County Women’s Commission.”

A number of local organizations focused on advocacy and civic engagement attended tonight’s meeting and provided information on how to get involved in their work, including the Maryland Democratic Party, Together We Will, Progressive Maryland, Health Care for All, Women of Action of Charles County, and Indivisible.
