Hoyer Receives Endorsement from Southern Maryland Newspapers

Endorsement Praises Hoyer As Strong, Powerful, Energetic Advocate for Fifth District Families

BOWIE, MD – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) received the endorsement of the Southern Maryland Newspapers – The Maryland Independent, The Enterprise, and The Calvert Recorder. In the endorsement, the Editorial Board noted that Congressman Hoyer is the candidate who will most forcefully and effectively represent the interests of the Fifth Congressional District, especially when it comes to growing our economy and protecting federal facilities and military installations.

“I am very pleased to receive the endorsement of the Southern Maryland Newspapers,” said Congressman Hoyer. “I look forward to continuing to represent Maryland’s Fifth Congressional District, putting Maryland families first and working across the aisle to deliver results for my constituents. I have been successful in helping to create well-paying jobs in and around the Fifth District, advocating for federal employees, and protecting and enhancing Fifth District military installations and federal facilities. I will continue to work on a bipartisan basis to grow our economy, strengthen the middle class, and improve the quality of life for Fifth District families."

“The paychecks of tens of thousands of 5th District families are directly or indirectly tied to the federal workforce and the military bases in the 5th District. Hoyer has been and remains a strong, powerful and energetic advocate for those families,” stated the Southern Maryland Newspapers Editorial Board in their endorsement. “He can size up the political landscape of the moment, craft the strongest argument for that time, knows which member of Congress and which agencies and officials in the federal bureaucracy can help achieve his goal, and will alternately push and compromise to achieve a goal. He has done this repeatedly on behalf of federal workers; Naval Support Facility, Indian Head; Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Lexington Park; and for countless other groups and agencies in his district.”
