Hoyer Statement on the Nomination of Jazz Lewis to the Maryland House of Delegates

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement congratulating Jazz Lewis on his nomination to the Maryland House of Delegates. Lewis was nominated by the Prince George's County Democratic Central Committee this week to fill the seat vacated by Michael L. Vaughn. Lewis has been with Congressman Hoyer's campaign for three years, and has served as Executive Director of Hoyer for Congress since 2015.

"I join in congratulating Jazz Lewis on his appointment to the Maryland House of Delegates. Over the past 3 years, Jazz has been a critical member of my campaign staff. His knowledge of the Maryland legislature and relationships with community leaders has been invaluable, and is sure to make him an effective Delegate. Beginning with the Boy Scouts - and earning the rank of Eagle Scout - and the First Baptist Church of Glenarden, and more recently working with student groups at the University of Maryland and with organized labor, Jazz has been an advocate for his community throughout his life, and I know he will continue that advocacy in his new role.

"I am confident Jazz will be an excellent representative for the community in which he has lived his entire life. I urge Governor Hogan to swiftly fill the vacancy so that Jazz can fully represent the interests of the residents of Prince George's County in the Maryland General Assembly."
