Labor Unions Endorse Hoyer for Reelection

BOWIE, MD -- Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) has been endorsed for his reelection to Congress in the Fifth Congressional District by multiple labor organizations, including Maryland State & DC AFL-CIO, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Maryland and DC State Council, the National Farmers Union Political Action Committee, and the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO.

"I'm pleased to receive the support of these important organizations, which represent thousands of men and women in our state," said Congressman Hoyer. "Labor unions are absolutely vital to ensuring good pay and benefits for hardworking Marylanders, and I am proud to stand with them. I will continue to work with labor to ensure our unions remain strong and that all Marylanders have access to economic opportunities to get ahead."

"The State Federation and our affiliated unions give you the endorsement with the expectation that you will support every worker's right to join and/or form a union and that you will protect unions and our members from encroaching corporate greed that destroys good paying jobs with benefits, erodes safety in the workplace and undermines our unions," said Donna S. Edwards, President, Maryland State & DC AFL-CIO. "We supported you in the Primary Election and we are proud to continue to support you through the General Election."

"I am pleased to inform you that you have received the unanimous endorsement of the SEIU Local unions in Maryland in your campaign for re-election to the United States House of Representatives, representing Maryland's 5th District," said Terry Cavanaugh, Executive Director, SEIU Maryland and DC State Council. "You have earned the support of SEIU members and all working families through your tireless efforts to protect America's middle class and increase opportunities for all people in this country. We proudly stand with you."

"NATFARMPAC seeks to support candidates for federal office who are committed to ensuring that the public policy needs of our nation's family farmers, fishers and ranches, as well as the communities in which they live, are addressed," said Roger Johnson, Chairman, National Farmers Union Political Action Committee. "You have demonstrated that commitment, and for that, we thank you."

"The 200,000 members of the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO, are honored to endorse your candidacy for re-election in November 2018," said Mark Dimondstein, President, American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO. "You have been a steadfast supporter of postal workers and the issues we care about. You have spent your career fighting on behalf of workers and their families, in support of collective bargaining and dedicated to the creation of more jobs. We look forward to continuing this great work with you. The APWU could not be more pleased to announce our decision to once again endorse Representative Hoyer this year - as we did in 2014 and 2016. Your friendship and unwavering support of postal workers is genuinely appreciated and applauded by our members - both in Maryland and across the country."
